Sahaja Yoga and its principles were presented at an International Conference recently held at Bangalore, India. The conference was hosted by Sampurnam Montfort College in collaboration with Bangalore University and the Centre for Diversity in Counseling and Psychotherapy, an interdisciplinary centre housed in the University of Toronto, Canada, with the theme ‘Building Bridges for Wellness through Counseling and Psychotherapy’.

Seeking is the essence of all organisms; however at a gross state the intensity and the depth vary from simple to complex organisms. A simple organism such as amoeba will seek life to avoid death, seek chemical balance over imbalance while the more complex an organism gets the seeking also goes beyond just for survival. But the earliest of single-cell organisms have limited means of seeking anything while the multicellular organisms developed sophisticated organs to seek what one desires.

The reason why many turn to substance abuse is that they are unable to deal with life's problems. Or their expectations are unrealistic. Depression and anger, sadness and frustration are further fuelled by drugdependency, alcoholism or both. Daniel Goleman, in Emotional Intelligence says that it is the lack of application of intelligence to emotions that makes one lonely and depressed, angry, unruly, prone to worry, more impulsive and aggressive.

Many a head nodded in agreement as Nirmala Devi, spiritual leader and founder of Sahaja Yoga, said, "Don't be too harsh on yourself. Stop feeling guilty about what has happened. Forgive yourself and forgive others.'' She was speaking to the officers of Indian Administrative Service on "Stress and Tension Management'' at the Y.B. Chavan auditorium on Saturday afternoon. She described the IAS and IPS officers as the "spine of the country'' and said that they should not be under any kind of stress or strain.
